I rhyme to see myself, to set the darkness echoing. (Seamus Heaney, from Personal Helicon)

Meadow

A vibrant hillside;
people pass, preoccupied,
as cows dream of grass.

——-

For haiku heights September challenge.

Summer days

Flattened patch of grass
beside the river, and a
startled stork rising.

——-

For haiku heights September challenge. The prompt is grass.

Creation

Finding an acorn
on the pavement, I moved it
onto the damp earth.

——-

For haiku heights September challenge. The prompt is ‘creation’. This is almost a real incident from my walk to work this morning – except it was a conker, which I wasn’t sure would mean much to anyone apart from ex-English schoolboys!

September sunset

This evening’s sunset;
revealing autumn
in every cloud.

——-

For haiku heights September challenge. The prompt is ‘revelation’

Maybe

She walks, glancing back,
her summer dress a shifting
symphony of silk.

——-

For haiku heights September challenge. The prompt is symphony.

April showers

Liberated scents
of cut grass and May blossom,
disperse winter clouds.

——-

For haiku heights September challenge. The prompt is ‘rain’. Also posted on dVerse.

In the cemetery

One smaller gravestone
speaks of hope and love, although
moss covers the name.

——-

For haiku heights September challenge. The prompt is ‘divine’.

Still life, in the kitchen

Peppers lie uncut;
a knife amongst onions
glistens with sweetness.

——-

For haiku heights September challenge. I cooked Provençal Sauce last night (and my recipe has sweet peppers).

After the parting

Nails losing their gloss,
she sits contemplating space,
but the train has left.

——-

For haiku heights September challenge. (With apologies to the woman opposite me in Bristol station last week who inspired this.)

Spring Dawn

A blackbird calling
as the sun rises, renders
all the world in song.
