Never leave burning candles unattended
by poetrydiary
Candles
silent like swans;
calm,
flicker.
Your candles:
warm light
always
dying;
slow shadows;
moving,
longing,
burning,
threatening;
recalling
ancient ways
of seeing
through darkness,
light.
Remembering, like candlelight.
Keep away from children, and
handle with care.

An intriguing poem specially when I read the tag as love poems. On the practical side, I agree, keep away from children.
Sorry for the intrigue! It has a personal resonance, and the tag means something to me. I wanted to try to bring out the contrasting nature of candles and candlelight – the romanticism and also the unexpected danger.
I can’t quite manage enough HTML/Wordpress to get the spacing I want (it’s a little extreme!) but hopefully you get the idea.
Thanks for all your comments.
Lovely, I liked the format too (even if it is rather extreme, as you say; you might want to try formatting in Word and then importing to WP?).
I have fixed the format – thanks for the suggestion (Word didn’t work, but you prompted me to try harder and I found I could do it with the WordPress “kitchen sink” plus a bit of HTML…..!). I think I’ll stick to straightforward layouts in future – although grateful for this wonderful technology (and technologists) that make all this communication and expression possible.
i can see the contrast in this…very nice on structure as well..i like the broke apart words on either side as it slides down the page…i def think we should not just keep away but explain such things to children…
Hi Matthew.
Same as you I also write for pleasure and same as you I also like sharing my words.
All things have their good and bad side, even the ones which look safe at first sight. Love is one of them since you can die of so much burning, so…lovers, take care!
I like the way you have presented your poem.
Nice to meet you here.
🙂
Intriguing in message and very well crafted in image.
Interesting style…nice! 🙂
It’s good to assume common sense isn’t and explain. Nice piece.
