September Haiku Challenge – Week 5
by poetrydiary
Berlin – Sept 30
This relaxed city,
people laughing at midnight,
has earned peace through pain.
Rhythm – Sept 29
Insect wings beating
in microscopic rhythm
stir autumn evening.
Charm – Sept 28
Leaves with ice crystals
aligned like tiny magnets,
etching winter’s charm.
Poise – Sept 27
Midnight lampposts poised
silently like winter trees,
preparing for spring.
Phoenix – Sept 26
Hypnotic bonfire;
is there movement in the flames?
Phoenix are still rare.

For Haiku Heights September Challenge. This is the last week, and it has got tougher (especially as I now have some kind of flu as well) but I feel I have thoroughly explored this form – although it’s dominated the month. Glad I made the effort.
I’m also in Berlin, very strangely and briefly, for a one day conference on 29 Sept. I’ve never been here before and it’s a lovely city, as far as I can tell from a 36 hour visit…
Trust me, you have created such a wonderful haiku.. you know I was trying to see the movement..
The rarity of the phoenix, like the unicorn, ranks in the legend class! Unreal for some but inspiring for others! Lovely haiku!
If there is movement then it has to be upward!! …and the phoenix like quality is especially valued then for its uncommonness!! Great Haiku!!
Hope you feel better soon!! Good Wishes!!
Yeah, the Phoenix is rare, but the name is not uncommon. In fact there is a club, a pub, and a theatre in my area and they’re all called The Phoenix!
Nicely!
I like that preparation for spring.. nice image.
The phoenix rising.. so rare.
I hope you feel better… the challenge is coming to a close in a few days.
I like the description of the lamp posts…fire is hypnotic…great job!
Well captured quietude and calmness!! Beautiful and well poised imagery!!
Beautiful thoughts have come from your fevered brow! I hope you are soon entirely well again.
Just shows how we miss spring, even circumventing cold winter.
Beautiful verse!
Hank
Like the lamp posts and the charm!
The rarity of the phoenix is all the more reason to look for one!
Can you see a phoenix here or here?
You’ve painted a vivid word picture with your “Charm” haiku. I am shivering here!
Dare to Charm
A warm bed and freshly brewed coffee are the charms of winter! And I love them both…plus a very good novel on hand…perfect!
Amity…:)
Aligned like tiny magnets — my favorite line — very description and I like the rhythm of the words
An array of winter artistry came to mind with your lines!!. Beautifully expressed!!
Leaves with ice crystals – this line is beautiful ~
And the wings beating.. nice image of the autumn night ~
Spring is always welcome! Like the imagery in your Haikus.
these are lovely. thanks
I can hear the rhythmic buzz buzz buzz!! 🙂
Nice to read about that city, Berlin.
Happy to see you completing the challenge, Matthew. I think I missed on some days, but you got it all together.
See you around ~
I love the microscopic rhythms of cicadas, although many people do not! 🙂
Rhythms here and here
“Earned peace through pain” — that says everything in 4 words, brilliant!
And Matthew thank you more than anything for your comments on my blog. I always looked forward to see if you had commented.
Feel better!
Judith
I’m going to wash my hands now so I don’t catch your cold
Yeah, Berlin sounds good!

Yes Berlin earned its peace…great haiku
The hard earned peace is all the more sweeter!! Cheers to the people of Berlin!!
