Dawn in the Alps
by poetrydiary
It begins:
sunlight as fingertips pricking pine tops;
a shiver starting down the ridge,
massaging mountain spines
and spreading opened palms through pastures
which sigh, colour, and yield
(cow bells tingling)
to the dawn.

oh i love the finger tips massaging mountain spines…what a gorgeous image…
beautiful! sustained strong work from beginning to end.
Oh, goose bumps! Love the massaging of mountains’ spines!
ha…love the fingertips on the tree tops…very visual..i can watch it and sigh…smiles….
Very nice write.
Love the use of sound with the bell.
A beautiful evocation of Dawn in the Alps. I have been lucky enough to witness the sun rise in Switzerland and your poem has sent me right back there!
This is beautiful. I too have been in the Alps to see sunrise, but it was the Austrian Alps. Just beautiful with air so fresh! I want to return.
Sounds pretty amazing – the idea of this big hand very cool and well-depicted. k.
absolutely mesmerising…this poem makes me long for being in the Alps..’sunlight as fingertips pricking pine tops’ — loved this line..
Oh I just love this. You make me feel as if I was there at my very favorite time of day.
I’ve only flown over the alps- but it captures the way light moves in the Rockies as well. Absolutely beautiful.
Such beautiful imagery!
Great work!
This is where I live and it’s my favourite time of day – you describe it beautifully in so very few words. I may have to recite this to myself each morning!
Beautiful, beautiful…had to say it twice.
I love the images created in your poem. I was envisioning the sun as a gentle lover awakening his love the mountains with loving caresses and whispers (cow bell tingling).
Thanks Dorianna – not far off my intentions, although the cow bells were kind of intended to be the feeling induced in the mountain by the touching, like nerves tingling…I like your interpretation too though.
This is a “wish I had wrote that” kind of poem for me! I bookmarked this 🙂
Thanks Margaret
Beautiful poem!
Massaging mountain spines is a great image and brings back many fond memories of waking up on summer camping holidays in the Alps. Thank you Marie.
