I will let the door open
by poetrydiary
I will let the door open;
light fall on your hair.
I will draw back the curtains,
And let passing birds stare.
This prison is closed now;
The watch towers unmanned.
The garden is open,
Will you take my hand?
It’s spring in the country,
Still chill in the dawn.
You’ll miss the warm fireside
But no time to mourn.
Dissolve in the forest,
And drink in the sky.
For too long now grounded,
We’ll see who can fly.
A response to this week’s wewritepoems (picture) prompt Street Art Poem.
Such a wonderful and warm response to darkness and I love the first stanza. I like the country air feeling.
Yes, I like the warmth and hope of this.
I agree with the other ladies, this piece is warm and hopeful. It’s nice to see that evolved from the darkness of the picture. Well done.
Matt, this certainly does exude hope and warmth, so unlike the other takes on the prompt’s artwork. Beautiful.

This is an absolutely gorgeous response to the prompt…quite the opposite of what the scene literally looks like.

Thank you for this. I was also surprised by some of the other responses, but maybe I spend too much time in cities and on trains.
Beautiful…just the thought of asking her to take your hand and then the ending caps what I thought would happen. I hope she can fly.
